I bought it from a junk yard for $400, we’re keeping all the stock internals and only a handful of mods to make it race-ready. Hopefully next week we’ll be able to get our hands dirty!

That is pretty damn clean for a 400$ engine. I assume some cleaning was done prior to the upgrades being done?

A little bit. We also pulled the timing cover off of an over-heated engine that was given to us, which was much cleaner than the original.

A dry sump system like that seems like a pretty niche product. Is it hard to find something like that, or are they build specifically for this sort of racing league?

All the aftermarket parts were designed specifically to be used in the SCCA Formula F. It actually comes in a kit.

(The price there is with a crate engine, we saved around $2,000 by using a junkyard engine)

Interesting. Make sense, I suppose. Definitely not a cheap endeavour, it would seem.
